Former Leeds United and Barnsley left-back joins Scottish Premiership side

Former Leeds United and Barnsley left-back Aidy White joined Scottish Premiership sides Hearts on a contract running through until 2021.

Scottish Premiership side Hearts have completed the signing of former Leeds United and Barnsley defender Aidy White, it has been confirmed on Friday afternoon.

The 27-year-old has been without a club since his contract expired with Barnsley in the summer of 2017, and he comes in to provide some reinforcement for Hearts in the wake of defensive injury struggles.

The Irishman started his career in the youth academy of Leeds United, joining the youth squad in 20o2 at the age of nine. At the age of just 16, White made his debut for the Whites in 2008 in a League Cup clash with Crystal Palace.

During his time at Elland Road, he was sent on loan spells to Oldham Athletic and Sheffield United with first-team opportunities rare, excluding in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.

After seven years in the first-team at Leeds United, White moved away on a permanent basis joining Rotherham United. He only played 10 times for the Millers before heading away to Barnsley, where he spent around a season and a half.

White played 32 times for Barnsley before the expiration of his contract at Oakwell in the summer of 2017 and he has been without a club since.

The 27-year-old has collected 10 caps for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s side, but never broke through into the senior side.

Now with Hearts, White will come in to work hard to rebuild his fitness to try and help Craig Levein’s side as the Scottish Premiership season gets closer and closer to its climax.
