Leicester City rebuff Brentford transfer move

According to Sky Sports Live Transfer Blog (July 3rd, 19:09), Leicester City have rejected Brentford’s move for their back-up stopper Daniel Iversen.

The need for a new goalkeeping set-up at Griffin Park after the Bees #1 Dan Bentley made the switch from the Londoners to Bristol City. This situation is further complicated what with Brentford back-up keeper Luke Daniel entering the final year of his current deal.

Iversen was seen as a “potential alternative“, say Sky Sports, to David Raya who remains the first choice replacement for the Bees. However, Raya’s current club, Blackburn Rovers, are playing hardball over a deal, insisting on “a fee as close to £4m as possible” in order for Brentford to land their man.

However, despite Brentford wanting to sign at least one keeper this window, it looks as if their search will need to continue with Leicester steadfastly refusing to entertain interest in Iversen, the Denmark Under-21 international who signed for the Foxes at the end of January 2016 from Esbjerg’s Under-19s.

Iversen spent last season out on loan and away from the King Power Stadum and was betwen the sticks at Boundary Park with Oldham Athletic. He featured in 49 games across all competitions for the Foxes, conceding 65 goals and keeping 15 clean sheets. 43 of those games were in the Latics Sky Bet League Two campaign, a campaign where he conceded 55 times and kept 15 clean sheets.

However, for Brentford this output is irrelevant, Leicester City’s refusal to let the youngster go means that their search for a new keeper is destined to carry on.
