Fulham early team news – Parker to make changes for Aston Villa tie amid growing injury worries

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Fulham boss Scott Parker has confirmed that they will be without a number of first-team players for the FA Cup clash with Aston Villa but insisted he will still be putting out a strong side.

Fulham boss Scott Parker has confirmed that a number of his key players will be unavailable for the FA Cup Third Round tie with Premier League side Aston Villa, confirming that midfielders Tom Cairney, Josh Onomah and Harrison Reed and defender Steven Sessegnon are all doubts for the game.

Now, speaking ahead of the game, Parker has said that despite the growing injury problems, he will be looking to field a strong side for the tie at Craven Cottage. He said:

“Our squad’s pretty light at this present moment in time because we’ve got so many injuries, so the fit players who are around it and in a state to play will be the boys who are out there.

“Harrison Reed obviously came off the other day struggling with an injury, Steven Sessegnon’s picked up another slight issue with his groin. Tom Cairney is struggling from the Stoke game with his calf, and we’ve got a couple of other niggles, so there’s a few. Josh Onomah’s been ill as well.

“These are the moments that this team, and us as a football club, should be relishing. We’re up against a good team and we’re all looking forward to it.”

Fulham will be hoping to improve on last year’s FA Cup run, in which they went out at the first hurdle, losing to League Two side Oldham Athletic in front of their home fans. The Cottagers have not made it beyond the Third Round since 2017, when they progressed to the Fifth Round, defeating Cardiff City and Hull City before losing 3-0 to Spurs.
